Pokemon Go Creator announces a new social app

Pokemon Go Creators Niantic announced another new app this week, but it’s not a game this time around. Instead, it’s a social app called “Campfire” that aims to help Niantic players “discover new people, places, and experiences around them.” This app was already in testing during beta with preview limited to Entry players, but in the coming months, Pokemon Go Players should see the option to test it out, too.

behind in MayNiantic talked about this app but it wasn’t called “Campfire” at the time. Choose Entry Players were given the option to use features such as the ability to select players’ local communities, the option to add other Niantic users as friends, and other useful social systems. Niantic had hoped that these features and the Campfire app would enhance the “realistic social connections” that its games that are already social in nature underpin.

These same features are still there in Campfire now and they will be Pokemon Go Players get access. Niantic said players will be able to do things like send direct messages to each other and organize groups to coordinate things like raids or gym fights. Players will also be able to see if others are nearby using the app’s map, and after finding those players in this way, you can use other social features like the messaging system or the ability to add them as friends.

for pokemon go, Specifically, Niantic shared two ways this Campfire app might be useful.

“in Pokemon GOCoaches can also share Raid locations with friends in a live message — or group chat — making it easier to get the team together quickly and efficiently,” Niantic said. “Or if you’re playing solo, you can tap on a specific place on the map and you’ll see the option to add a ‘flare’ to that location. Think of Flares as a catchphrase for everyone who sees it, encouraging other coaches to head there and join in the fun.”

Pokemon Go Anniversary event is coming soon, but given that there is no release date for this Campfire app, it doesn’t look like it will be ready for players to take advantage of by the time this event starts.

The announcement comes after Niantic canceled several projects and laid off employees as well. The canceled games included the Transformers title as well as other code-named projects.
